  • Overview

    The Medical Director of the Next Generation Accountable Care Organization (NG ACO) works in conjunction with St. Luke’s Health Partners (SLHP) leadership.  This role is responsible for improving (a) clinical quality and (b) reducing unnecessary utilization as it relates to NG ACO beneficiaries.  This position will work with the medical directors at SLHP, as appropriate.  The Medical Director will also interact frequently with physician groups and physicians as it relates to (VBC) Value-Based Care and NG ACO.


    QUALIFICATIONS: (Minimum qualifications required for the job)

    • Education: Medical degree with board certification. Board certification in family medicine or internal medicine preferred
    • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a group or solo practice in an ambulatory setting as a primary care physician. Relevant experience in Medicare and in Value-Based Care. Proficiency with data analytics and electronic health records. Excellent Communication Skills.
    • Practice in a NG ACO provider clinic on a regular basis, as a NG ACO Participating Provider per CMS requirements.
    • Licenses/Certifications: Board-certified physician and licensed in a state in Idaho.



    • Serve as the accountable physician leader for clinical and financial performance of the NG ACO program.
    • In dyad partnership with the ACO program manager or director, ensure compliance with all CMMI/CMS requirements in implementation of the NG ACO program.
    • In dyad partnership with the ACO program manager or director, coordinate with Risk Adjustment, Care Management, Quality, and other SLHP programs to ensure that NG ACO initiatives coordinate with other VBC initiatives.
    • Take appropriate action to achieve ever-improving clinical outcomes at the lowest total cost of care for NG ACO beneficiaries.
    • Educate and inform ACO provider groups and physicians regarding NG ACO initiatives and VBC. Attend physician meetings as requested.
    • Use population health management platforms to identify trends for quality and utilization for inpatient and out-patient measures and metrics and initiate programs to address opportunities.
    • Partner with SLHS Service Line leaders and SLHP senior leadership to assure work occurs in a coordinated and patient-centric fashion designed to help SLHP achieve its population health goals.
    • Provide strategic input into decisions regarding NG ACO beneficiary enhancements (waivers).
    • Provide strategic input into decisions on participating provider enrollment in the NG ACO.
    • Represent SLHP NG ACO locally and nationally, as requested and appropriate.
    • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
